Prof Nyachieo Bogonko, former Principal at Maseno University College, now Maseno University, donated science equipment worth Sh1 million, with an aim to lure students to appreciate science-related subjects.

According to the Don, science related subjects such as Physics, Chemistry and Biology are unpopular in rural schools, a problem he attributed to archaic perception by many students.

“We keenly observe the performance trends of sciences in national exams, then you get convinced that something serious should be done. Many of our students have failed to take these subjects seriously due to ancient perceptions,” said Bogonko.

He said the new equipment will help the school approach those subjects from a practical point of view, rather than the preferred theoretical knowledge.

“I have decided to donate this equipment to improve the standards of sciences in our region. Our schools have performed dismally for a long time due to insufficient exposure to practical approach to those subjects,” he added.

The don asked students to embrace sciences, besides promising to reward Sh10,000 to students who will score grade A’s in these year’s exams.

School Principal John Okong’o hailed the academician, and promised improved performance, not only in this year’s exams but also in subsequent exams.

”You have made us proud. Let me thank you for this great favour and I promise tremendous improvement in the said subjects,” he said.
