Kenyans have been urged to consume sugarcane juice to improve their health.
"Sugarcane juice is a good source of glucose which helps in the re-hydration of the human body and gives it energy boost," said Dr Johnson Maina from Egerton University.
He was speaking on Tuesday in Nakuru during a workshop to sensitise Kenyans on the importance of consuming products containing glucose.
Dr Maina said though sugarcane juice is sweet, it is also recommended for people with diabetes.
He however said people with with type 2 diabetes should consume it in moderation and after consultation with physicians.
Dr Maina also noted that the juice has considerable amounts of alkaline because of the high concentration of calcium, magnesium, iron and manganese.
He said diseases like cancer cannot survive in alkaline environments and that consumption of sugarcane juice can help fight such diseases.
He said cane juice boosts protein in the body as it also helps in the health of the kidneys.
Taken in diluted form with lime juice and coconut water, he said cane juice can help reduce the contraction of urinary infections and kidney stones.
