Kisii based Don now wants the county government of Nyamira to come out clear on the proposed construction of a public university in collaboration with the University of Eldoret following new guidelines issued by education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Matiangi recently suspended the creation of more university colleges in the country as an austerity measure to promote quality education in the institutions of higher learning.
Speaking to the reporter on Wednesday, Professor Albert Getabu challenged Governor John Nyagarama to make public the amount of money that was set aside for accountability reasons.
“I am aware that universities have been suspended from expanding through the creation of colleges," said Getabu.
"As a concerned citizen, I would like to challenge the governor to make public the amount that was set aside for the implementation of the project,” he said.
Getabu said the new policy could allow cartels in the county government to embezzle the funds and urged the county leadership to come out clear on the matter before it causes confusions among residents.
“We know that some cartels are now planning on how to squander the resources meant for the construction of the university," said Getabu.
"It's time for the county leadership to come out clear on the project. We want all our resources to be safeguarded,” he added.
He also challenged the University of Eldoret and the county government to hold a joint press conference and address the matter to clear the confusions.
“The University of Edoret and the county government should also hold a press conference to address the matter," said the professor.
"We want our money to be put in good use and therefore, it’s important to know whether the project will commence or not,” he said.
