Speaking on Wednesday in his office while receiving complaints from dissatisfied students, Prof Maurice Amutabi, the deputy vice chancellor in charge of academics, said the institution will take legal action against such lecturers who have literally jeopardise the compilation of results.

Amutabi wondered why such lecturers had to detain students’ marks yet the institution was able to handle their grievances.

“We are not going to give careless and lazy tutors a chance to spoil our good reputation. They have no excuse other than to submit those marks urgently before we take a stiff action against them. We can as well seek a court order to have them release the marks,” he said.

“The institution has a capacity to handle their grievances and am quite astonished with the uncouth conduct from educationists. They have an obligation to submit results and wait for their dues to be processed,” he added.

This came few hours after fourth years from Faculty of Information Science complained about their missing marks which have been allegedly withheld on grounds that the institution has not paid tutors.

“We sat for an exam in the year 2012 and till today, our marks have not been recorded. This is a failure to the institution and they owe us an explanation,” said a student who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the magnitude of the matter.

It has since been established that it is lecturers who teach on a part time basis who have been withholding examination results as a protest to delayed or non-payments by the institution.
