United States President Donald Trump is supporting a new law that could end the Green Card lottery visa program which has helped over 17,000 Kenyans obtain residency over the last few years.
With over 52,000 people across Africa winning the lottery in 2014, Kenyans made up more than 1,200.
On Wednesday the US Head of State met with Republican senators to come up with a merit based way of awarding visas.
According to the White House, the new law would eliminate the out-of-date Diversity Visa lottery system, which assists the debatable financial and humanitarian welfare of individuals.
During his campaign last year he spoke about his concern over the fact that American citizens were losing their jobs to immigrants.
The bill has been given the name Reforming American Immigration for a Strong Economy Act (RAISE).
The number of Kenyans entering for the green card lottery has decreased over the last few years from approximately 265,000 in 2013 to 194,000 in 2015.
In 2014 only 1 percent of Kenyans who entered the lottery were actually given green cards.
