Kiambu County Maendeleo ya Wanawake Chairlady has appealed for donations to enable girls in the county attend classes throughout the term.
Margret Wagio said her office had partnered with Help and Forget Organisation in Kiambu town to ensure that no girl misses lessons due to one’s body biological functions.
“Most girls from poor backgrounds in the county have been missing classes for one week every month over menstruation interferences,” said Wagio.
Speaking in Chania Girls High School today, the chairlady who doubles up as the president of Help and Forget said the programme which was initiated two years ago has been very fruitful.
She noted that unlike in the past, girls in Kiambu had started putting a stiff competition against their male counterparts.
Wagio said it has been confirmed that a donation of Sh 500 is able to keep one girl in class throughout a term.
All people including men should unite to ensure all girls access education. We are currently funded by a humanitarian organization in Boston USA but Kenyans also need to help us move this programme to other counties,” added Wagio.
17 girls from the school were awarded with sanitary towels and writing materials.
