Residents of Kianjogu in Ndenderu, Kiambaa sub-county in Kiambu County were shocked when remains of a donkey believed to be slaughtered and taken to several meat joints was discovered.

The remains were found yesterday where the donkey is believed to have been slaughtered, and the meat supplied t some local butcheries across the town.

John Muchoki, who runs butchery in the town said that recently, there has been suspected cases of donkey meat in the town.

Some unscrupulous meat vendors have been supplying meat suspected to be game or donkey meat and selling to the locals.

“We urge the department of health to inspect all eateries to ascertain the quality of meat sold,” he said.

Rahab Njambi, the owner of the donkey confirmed that they found the head, skin and legs dumped and the rest of the parts transported for sale.

“I bought the donkey to assist me in doing some work including fetching water. It is the only one I had. I plead with the security organs to help me find justice as his has left me counting losses,” Njambi narrated.

Area Chief Edward Mungai confirmed the incident and urged the locals to embrace Nyumba Kumi initiative as such crimes could be averted.

“Let us embrace Nyumba Kumi so that we can be the upholders of the security we need to see. If we knew who we live next to, and what they do, such cases would not occur since it is easier to know who did what,” Mungai said.
