A section of Egashura residents in Kiamaina ward, Bahati Sub-county, who depend on donkeys to fetch water have urged Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua to close all donkey slaughterhouses in Naivasha and Mogotio.
Under Punda Poa Kazi Poa Self Help Group, the vendors said close to 40 donkeys owned by their members had been stolen in the last three months.
"This morning we have discovered that eight donkeys of our three members were stolen at midnight,'' said Martin, one of the vendors.
"On December last year 2016, we lost 10 donkeys in one night. The other month we had lost about twelve of them and we are suspecting someone is transporting them to Naivasha or Mogotio slaughter houses,'' added Stanley Njoroge, who lost four of his eight donkeys, Thursday.
"The Group's chairman Paul Muiruri issued a stern warning against donkey thieves, saying he would ban vehicles that transport donkeys in the area.
