The Universities Academic Staff Union (Uasu) has said it is ready to resume strike if the government fails to implement their 2013-2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The CBA which saw a 54-day strike which started on January 13, come to an end, was signed on March 13, 2017.
The CBA which offers lecturers a 17.5 per cent increase in basic salaries and a 3.9 per cent rise on house allowances across the board, is expected to take effect from Friday, June 30.
According to Uasu secretary general Constantine Wasonga, the union is hoping that the government will honour the agreement and implement the CBA.
“So far the government is not saying anything so we are just waiting. After June 30, we are going a position,” Wasonga said, Wednesday.
“All the CBA’s Uasa has enjoyed in this country were negotiated and we went on strike for them to be implemented. We are used to this,” he added.
If the CBA is implemented, the highest paid academic staff will be receiving Sh247,925 per month up from sh211,000.
