The newly elected University Academic Staff Union (UASU) Secretary General Constantine Wesonga Opiyo says the CBA is among the issues his team will prioritise.

“If the government does not co-operate in terms of implementing the CBA, then in September there will be no classes in public universities,” he warned.

The secretary general said the union was going to demand for the review of Commission for University Education (CUE) requirement that all dons should have a Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) degree by 2018.

“It is impossible because this dons are overworked and they are not sponsored. That requirement has to be re-negotiated and UASU must be involved,” he said.

The Kisumu’s Maseno University don was speaking at the Tom Mboya Labor College in Kisumu on Friday shortly after being elected the new UASU Secretary General.

He got 179 defeating Professor Samuel Kubasu who garnered 153 votes.

Muga Kolale was elected Chairman, Joab Malea Kinzi Deputy Secretary General, Jenipher Kemunto Treasurer, Ratemo Zacharia her deputy and Naftali Rugada Muiga Organizing Secretary.
