Moi University lectures have insisted that they will go on with their strike that seeks to push for the implementation of the 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
University’s union officials led by the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) Secretary General Jack Wilis Abok have however said they respect the rule of law.
This follows a court order that directed the striking lecturers to resume work on Monday.
He, however, challenged the government not to use the courts to subvert their push for a better working condition.
“We’ve accepted the court process and this is why we have asked for a stay order,” Abok told the press in Eldoret town on Monday.
He insisted that lectures will only go back to class after their demands are implemented in totality.
“The status quo continues, nobody is going to class in any Kenyan public university until justice is served. The government should make sure that proper awards are made to us and the courts are not abused to subvert the course of justice,” noted Abok.
The UASU Moi University chapter official further asked parents to support them in the ongoing strike.
“Parents should know that a motivated lecture and professor will offer quality service to their children,’ he said.
