Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji has challenged aspirants eyeing elective seats in the August 8 polls to champion for peace in their campaigns.

Addressing locals at Masalani trading center in Ijara on Sunday, Haji urged locals not to fall prey to divisive politics being preached by some aspirants.

The senator said that some politicians are out to divide locals in the name of hunting for votes.

“I urge Kenyans not be swayed by aspirants whose main agenda is to cause divisions and violence in the name of campaigning,” said Haji as quoted by the Star.

The Garissa senator asked locals to work with leaders who value peace and development.

Haji at the same time urged locals to vote for leaders who will push for development.

The Garissa senator claimed that most elected leaders in the county have not championed any development.

The senator hit out at Garissa County government claiming it has let locals down.

“For the last four years we have not seen any tangible development by the Garissa County government,” he said.

The senator accused Governor Nathif Jama led government of frustrating development.

Haji is seeking re-election as senator in the August 8 general election.
