Gure claims that some male politicians are frustrating women aspirants who have declared interest in political seats in Garissa and neighbouring counties.

Speaking to journalists in Garissa Town, Gure said that cases of female aspirants being intimidated during election period are cropping up ahead of the August 8 election.

The Garissa Woman representative stated that the constitution guarantees equal rights for male and female aspirants to contesting for political seats.

 “I want to urge women seeking elective seats in the August elections to stand firm against intimidation that is often perpetuated on us by our male colleagues,” she said.

She asked relevant government agencies to guarantee security of women aspirants before, during and after the polls.

“We have seen cases in the past where women campaigns are disrupted by hired goons and we don’t want to see them again,” she said.

Gure urged women to come out and contest for elective seats.

She exuded confidence of being re-elected in the August polls and vowed to continue with women empowerment projects.
