Gilgil town Member of County Assembly (MCA), Jane Ngugi, has urged youths and women in the ward to be actively involved in development related activities.
Addressing locals on Saturday, Ngugi said time has come for youths and women to make their contribution count in the development projects in the country.
“I would like to encourage women and youths to be in front line fighting for development related activities,” said Ngugi.
The MCA said that the government has started programmes meant to empower youths and women.
Ngugi said that the existent of Uwezo Fund is a clear indication that the government recognizes the role of women and youths in development.
“Uwezo Funds is meant to empower the youths and women, I therefore urge the two groups to apply for the funds so that it can help them to venture into business,” said Ngugi.
Ngugi further urged women to seek leadership positions saying that the constitution guarantees them that opportunity.
She noted that, time has gone when women were side-lined, they should be active in matters politics and leadership.
Meanwhile, the MCA pledged to spearhead development of the area and ensure locals have access to basic services.
She urged other leaders in the sub county to focus on development and boost their peoples living standards.
