Jubilee’s Ananiah Mwaboza has downplayed allegations that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto are waging a war against Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho ahead of the August general election. Speaking to The Star, Mwaboza said Joho is entitled to questioning, adding that the recent activities do not indicate a fight between the national and county government. “Which government is fighting Joho? If it is about his certificate, it is legitimate. The academic ratings of the University of Nairobi will be affected if it is ever known they admitted an unqualified person. It has nothing to do with the government,” said Mwaboza. In reference to the freezing of his accounts at the Stanbic bank last week, Mwaboza said the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is only interested in knowing the truth and nothing else.Mwaboza, who is Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Suleiman Shahbal’s running mate, said the tax man only wants to know whether Joho has been meeting his obligations, adding that he (Mwaboza) is the one who raised alarm.“On KRA, the institution is only trying to ascertain whether the governor has been meeting his tax obligations. I am the one who raised these critical matters, not the government,” said Mwaboza, as quoted by the daily. He further asked Joho not to blame the government for his woes.
