Nyamira County ODM chairperson James Gesami has laughed off the Wednesday’s resignation of Ababu Namwamba as the the party's national secretary general and defended his leader Raila Odinga over betrayal claims.
Ababu resigned from the lucrative post on Wednesday days after the national vice chair Paul Otuoma tendered in his resignation citing frustrations and betrayal within the party from top leadership.
And now Gesami accused Ababu of failing to capitalise on the opportunity and show leadership in the party for the betterment of his political future.
“It’s sad that a person who was given the senior most position in the party could go around claiming he has been frustrated. He had all the powers to show leadership in the party but squandered the opportunity,” said the West Mugirango MP.
“He had a chance to build his political future and after messing up, he is now blaming a wrong person. He wanted the post and Raila gave him and it’s unfortunate that he wants to drag an innocent person into his woes,” he added.
Gesami also faulted Ababu's decision to come out in public to express his frustrations contending that the outspoken Budalangi MP should have exhausted internal dispute resolution methods.
“I don’t condemn Ababu because he has made a decision for his own good but dragging Raila into it is wrong. We supported him as SG but instead chose a wrong path. There could be problems but he should have used inhouse mechanisms first,” he said.
