According to Susan Njoki, a political lecturer at a local University in Limuru, Kiambu county,  Ndeti’s celebrations could turn into mourning if the Supreme Court reinstates Mutua as the Machakos Governor.

Njoki said the Supreme Court will have the final say on Mutua’s fate.

“I think it is too early for people to start talking of by-election in Machakos when the Supreme Court is yet to hear and rule on the appeal filed by the embattled governor,” Njoki said.

The Political Science tutor said there is a likelihood of the Supreme Court overturning the Court of Appeal's ruling thereby giving Mutua a political lifeline.

She spoke to this writer on Wednesday.

Njoki, however, said Mutua will have an uphill task of winning a re-election in case of a by-election.

She said Ndeti’s influence and dominance continue to increase.

“Chances of Mutua losing in case of by-election could be high on grounds that he has lost the majority of politic support,” Njoki added.

Governor Mutua’s election was nullified by the appellant court last week.

The court ruled that the Machakos gubernatorial election was not free and fair.

In the ruling by Judge William Ouko, the court ordered IEBC to conduct a fresh gubernatorial poll.

Mutua has since appealed the ruling at the Supreme Court.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap leader insists that he is still the governor pending the Supreme Court hearing and ruling on the appeal.

On Tuesday, Mutua suffered another big blow when Machakos County Assembly passed a motion to  have him impeached.
