A Busia catholic priest has told Kenyans who complain of bad leadership and yet they have either not registered as voters or never participated in elections that they are insincere.

"Why raise eyebrows on bad leaders when you cannot use your constitutional right to elect leaders of your choice?" he said, adding that the only remedy is to register as voters and participate in the August 8, elections.

Fr Leonard Okumu gave the advise during the burial of Mzee Silvanus Asoka, 85, the father to Ang'oromo Ward Administrator Charles Asoka at Ojamii village, Teso South Sub County on Saturday.

Ang'oromo Location Chief Anthony Ejakait displayed 40 Identity Cards whose owners have not collected.

He appealed to those who had applied for their ID cards to collect them from his home or office.

Even with over 5,000 mourners who attended the burial of the octogenarian and IEBC stationing one BVR kit at the compound, only 20 people registered as voters to confirm the low rate of voter registration in Busia county.

Teso South MP aspirants Denzel Musumba told people not to just register as voters but to exercise their democratic rights and participate in the elections.

"I also wonder why some aspirants send their proxies for functions instead of them coming in person. Some of these messengers are even well spoken than aspirants themselves who only know how to buy their ways out," he said.

Acting Teso North Sub County administrator, Zipporah Amoit appealed to residents to maintain peace during the electioneering period and warned the youth against being bought by leaders to cause chaos.
