Kangundo MP Kyengo Maweu has advised coffee farmers not to give up on the cash crop.
Speaking after inspecting ongoing CDF projects in the constituency, Maweu urged farmers to strengthen the existing cooperative societies for purposes of streamlining the sector, which was once considered the region's main cash crop.
The MP said the crop is still capable of fetching good prices if given undivided attention by the farmers.
"We are also aware that too many brokers and middle-men have invaded the sector and have left farmers vulnerable," said the MP.
Kangundo, one of the most agriculturally endowed constituencies in Machakos County was years back reputed for producing Kenya's finest coffee.
But the production took a nose-dive after prices of the 'black gold' went down in the global market.
The MP said he would support the proposed legislation aimed at waiving tax on farm inputs in order to cushion farmers from incurring excessive cost of production.
