The county Disaster Management Director Mr Julius Tinega has issued a warning to county residents against digging deep latrines without taking precautionary measures, especially where the soil is loose. This came after the body of a 41-year-old man was retrieved after a toilet collapsed on him and body taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital. The man identified as Joseph Nyakundi was buried alive in a pit latrine in Kegogi Village Kisii County. Mr Tinega said they tried to save the deceased but all was in vain. “This is a case of ignorance on the part of the owner and the workers because the soil here was loose to accommodate the depth of the pit they were digging,” he said.
