Youth in Mombasa have been challenged to desist from engaging in drug abuse during the festive season.Anti-drug lobby, Reachout Center Trust, has appealed to the youth to enjoy the Christmas and new year holidays without using drugs or being lured into engaging in illegal activities.Reachout Center Trust Executive Director Taib Abdulrahman said youth need to exercise caution as this short holiday season can cost them if they are not careful. While addressing youth in Majengo, Mombasa County on Sunday, Abdulrahman said the organisation has conducted adequate awareness to the youth on dangers of drug abuse. He said a majority of youth have taken up the challenge to even go further and approach the organisation for more forums on the effects and impact of drug abuse among them.He urged the youth to always focus on how they will rebuild their lives to avoid being lured into the menace."Why should you dig your own grave yet you know that your family and the whole society needs you more?" asked Abdulrahman. He told the youth to stand up and change the perception that Mombasa is a drug zone and instead market the Coastal city as a tourist destination full of opportunities.“It pains me to see my colleagues lose focus in life and indulge in drug abuse. Please focus on your education and always seek assistance and counseling from us" he added.Abdulrahman also appealed to parents to be vigilant and monitor their children’s whereabouts during the festive season."Since most of the problems facing our youth are as a result of parental failures, then we are also focusing on the family issue as we engage our youth on how to deter from abusing hard drugs," he added. The anti-drug activist appealed to parents in the Coast region to openly discuss the negative impact of drug abuse with their children. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
