Speaking to the media after visiting the victims at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital on Friday noon, the PS warned that by exaggerating the death toll from the accident was hurting the the families of the victims.

Mochache who was to be the Guest of Honour at a function in the school, faulted the rumour mills inflating the number of deaths and alleging more girls had succumbed to their injuries.

"We should know something critical has happened let us be  responsible in handling the information. Those spreading the rumours are trivializing the loss of innocent human lives," Mochache warned.

The hospital’s CEO Enock Ondari explained the victims had been categorized as per the degree of injuries for easier medical attention revealing the number of those admitted had increased to 85.

He assured the parents that the health facility was well prepared to deal with the tragedy noting that some of the students will be discharged soon.

The students were enjoying a joy ride in celebration of their newly acquired school bus when the tragedy occurred.
