Garissa SUPKEM Secretary General Abdullahi Salat has asked the Judiciary to remain firm and not to fall to political intimidation.

Speaking to journalists in Garissa Town on Monday, Salat asked the courts to stamp its authority without fear or favor.

He said recent attacks on Judiciary by some politicians over court ruling on ballot paper printing was an act of disrespect to the independent institution.

The SUPKEM Garissa secretary general asked politicians to keep off the courts and allow it to interpret the laws as per the constitution.

‘‘The Judiciary must not give into political intimidation and rather stand firm and protect its independent,’’ Salat said.

Mr Salat asked politicians to respect independent institutions and allow them to dispense their work without interference.

He also warned court official’s against being compromised by politicians, adding that they must remain neutral in their service delivery.

Salat said that the constitutional separation of powers between the various arms of government has to be respected and adhered to.

Last week a section of Jubilee politicians launched attacks on the Judiciary accusing it of allegedly making court rulings in favor of NASA.

The politicians claimed that courts are allegedly working with the opposition to have the August 8 general election postponed.

Chief Justice David Maraga refuted the claims, saying that Judiciary makes its own independent decisions on cases and does not get influence from any quarters.
