Speaking yesterday during a press briefing following the outbreak that has raised the alarm, Dr Kabii urged parents to monitor the health of their children especially those below 5 years as the county government moves to tame the spread of the infectious disease.

“I urge all parents to keenly monitor their children and seek medical attention in case they detect any signs. Do not ignore persistent coughing and fever related signs especially among those kids between 0-5 years. The county government has set up disease surveillance system to detect and respond promptly to all cases therefore the need to help us in taming it,” Kabii added.

Nakuru county registered the outbreak of the fatal disease prevalent among children barely two months ago, with at least 20 cases of reported deaths and more than 40 cases being attended to.

The county government, Kabii added, will also conduct a vaccination exercise across the county for children aged below 5 years to immunize them against the disease.
