A Jubilee Member of Parliament in Uasin Gishu county has welcomed growing calls for President Uhuru Kenyatta and the opposition chief Raila Odinga to dialogue.
The Kesses MP Dr. Swarrup Mishra has, however, said talks between the two should be restricted to development issues and nothing to do with including some of the opposition leaders in government.
Speaking in Eldoret on Thursday, Mishra reiterated the need for the country to not only have a strong government in place but also a strong opposition.
"There's nothing wrong with the president and the opposition to hold talks but any such engagements should exclude government formation," said the MP.
"Let the President talk with Raila on how to take this country forward but then we need to have a strong opposition and I will discourage any calls for inclusion of the opposition leaders in Jubilee government," he added.
There have been reports that emissaries have been sent to Odinga's camp with several proposals aimed at addressing the current political stalemate among them allocating cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, and heads of parastatals slots to the National Super Alliance.
