Machakos Woman Representative Dr Susan Musyoka has cautioned youths against being swayed to violence by selfish politicians as the country gears up to the August 8 general election.

Addressing youths at Machakos Town on Wednesday, Dr Musyoka asked young people across the country to distance themselves from politicians who might want to use them as weapons of violence.

She said that politicians take advantage of the electioneering period to lure young people into violence.

“Our continued appeal is to young people across the country to reject attempts by politicians who would want to recruit them into violent groups with the purpose of disrupting peace this electioneering period,” she said.

Dr Musyoka instead appealed to young people to be on the front line in championing for peace.

She said that young people have a big responsibility of preaching unity and peace across the county without considering their tribes or clans.

Meanwhile, Dr Musyoka has called for political tolerance among politicians across the divide as the country prepares for the August polls.

She wants politicians to focus on preaching unity and peace in their campaigns.

“We (politicians) must tone down and focus on uniting the country this election time,” she added.

Dr Musyoka is seeking re-election for a second term in the August 8 polls.
