Constituents of Starehe have been urged to dispose of garbage properly to prevent outbreak of diseases associated with dirty environmentArea MP Charles Njagua who initiated a cleanup exercise said garbage disposal has been a major problem in the constituency.
"Residents should avoid throwing litter carelessly since this leads to the blockage of sewer lines during the rainy season thus causing floods", he said.
The lawmaker said it is the responsibility of the people to ensure the environment they are living in is clean.
"The environment has become too dirty and unfavorable due to the ongoing rains. This is why I decided to engage my people in the cleanup exercise," said Njagua.
He said Muthurwa, Kariokor and Marikiti markets will be cleaned up also and roads in the areas upgraded.
The Jubilee MP called on the county and national governments to intervene and ensure there is proper drainage at Muthurwa market to free the area from floods for businesses to run smoothly.
