North Eastern Regional Coordinator Mohamud Saleh County urged residents to go home immediately after casting their votes in next week’s general election.
Saleh says that it is illegal for voters to hang or loiter around polling centers once they have voted.
In an interview with the Daily Nation on Thursday, Saleh said that security personnel will not allow or tolerate groups or meetings around polling centers.
He appealed to voters to cooperate with security agencies to ensure they don’t fall in the wrong hands of the law.
“We will be taking stern action on people who will be found hanging aimlessly around polling centers,” he said as quoted by the Daily Nation.
Saleh at the same time assured residents of their security on and after the Tuesday general election.
He said that police have intensified patrols across the Northern region to keep law and order.
“There is nothing to fear for and we urge residents to come out and exercise their democratic rights on Tuesday,” he said.
North Eastern region has been experiencing instances of terror related attacks in the recent months.
Local politicians have been urging security agencies to beef up security in order to avoid voter apathy.
