NASA has responded to President Uhuru Kenyatta's instruction to Mombasa residents not to pay taxes to the Mombasa County Government if the Governor Hassan Joho-led administration fails to provide services to them.Speaking during a NASA rally at Mama Ngina grounds on Sunday, Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has called on Mombasa residents not to pay taxes to the national government which he said has delivered marginally on their promises."Last time Uhuru came to Mombasa and went to Mwembe Tayari and asked residents not to pay taxes to the county government. Today I have come here to announce that don't pay taxes to Uhuru Kenyatta," said the Siaya County boss.Uhuru's statement elicited mixed reactions with a section of leaders allied to the opposition accusing the President of threatening devolution through his directive, which they said incites residents against the devolved government.Mombasa residents however ignored the President’s directive, and went on to pay taxes arguing that Uhuru’s statement was loaded with political connotation.
