Residents of Nyamira County have been urged not to get disappointed with people living with disabilities in the society.
According to Nyamira County women representative Jerusha Momanyi, disabled persons should be taken as normal people in the society.
"Residents should not get disappointed when associating themselves with people living with disabilities. They are part of us and let's learn on how we should help them live a good life in the society," she said.
The MP called on parents to expose disabled children to others in the community and avoid locking them in houses.
"There is no shame parents can get by allowing their disabled children to associate with others in the community. Disabled children should be allowed to interact and play with others so that they don't feel neglected and ignored at their homes," she added.
The Jubilee lawmaker said local and elected leaders in Nyamira should fight for the rights of the disabled and kick out cartels with intentions to divert funds meant for the disabled people in the region.
She appealed to teachers across the county to treat well disabled children who have enrolled in various schools across the county so that they can get a conducive environment to learn.
