Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has urged residents not to plant blue gum trees along river banks.

Speaking in Nyangória market during Keroka Water supply ground breaking ceremony urged those who have planted blu gum trees near rivers to cut them down.

"I am challenging local communities to cut down blue gum trees along the river banks and replace them with water-friendly tree species,to secure the region's natural water sources from extinction,"said Nyangarama.

Nyagarama said that his directive will help to secure water natural sources againist extinction.

He urged residents to plant such species away from water sources.
