(National Assembly Majority Leader, Adan Duale. He has warned the oppostion agaisnt using the maize flour shortage as a campaign tool.] (File) National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has told off the NASA coalition principals for engaging in ‘ugali’ politics with the aim of making it an agenda ahead of the August 8 polls.
Speaking in Garissa town on Sunday, Duale said that the has put measures to enable Kenyans to access subsidized and cheap foodstuffs in the shelves of their supermarkets.
“I am sorry to disappoint our brothers in the opposition. I want to be categorical, ugali will not form part of the agenda ahead of the general elections,” he said as quoted by KNA.
Duale said the current inflation that pushed the prices of basic commodities up was a result of the severe drought that ravaged the country for the past 4 months.
The Garissa Township MP said the opposition has no agenda.
Duale stated that the government gave a waiver on maize, milk and sugar that allowed for the importation of subsidized foodstuff with the aim of bringing down the prices of the basic commodities.
"Arrival of the ships that brought maize from Mexico is an indication that the Jubilee administration wants Kenyans to access their basic foodstuffs and bring the cost of living down," added the Jubilee MP.
He said the opposition will not use the backdoor to ascend to power, urging them to prepare for a bruising battle in August 8 polls.
