Former long serving Cabinet Minister in the Moi regime Hussein Maalim Mohamed has urged politicians to accept the verdict of Kenyans after Tuesday’s General Election.
Maalim who was addressing the press in Garissa town on Saturday called upon Kenyans to resist any attempt to be incited to violence, saying those aggrieved should seek legal redress.
He appealed to Kenyans to maintain peace during and after the vote saying the choice of leaders should not cause disharmony adding that there would be winners and losers come Wednesday when the results were out.
The former veteran politician from Garissa County added that elections come and go but Kenya would always remain.
He said Kenyans could not afford a repeat of 2007/2008 post election violence that almost plunged the country into a state of lawlessness.
“There is life after elections. We must maintain peace and respect our institutions. If anyone doesn’t agree with the outcome of the elections, he or she should seek redress in a court of law.”
“I appeal to politicians to ask for votes peacefully. Kenyans are already burdened by economic difficulties, so please don’t make people fight because of politics. Campaign peacefully and leave Kenyans to make their choices,” Mr Maalim said.
