Boni residents in Lamu County have been warned against selling land registered as communal.
County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri said Monday the community risks being rendered landless if they don't stop the habit.
But Kanyiri said more land buyers will be attracted to the region following the onset of mega projects such as the Lapsset among other developments.
“It’s easy for people to take advantage and snatch all your land. How would you feel if future generations become squatters on their ancestral land due to mistakes their fathers make today?” asked Kanyiri, as reported by The Star.
The county commissioner was addressing residents in Pandanguo village.
On their part, the residents have accused the elders of selling land to foreigners without their permission or knowledge.
They now want individual plots demarcated saying this will help stop the vice.
In 2015, the community was issued with a bloc title deed for 20,000 cares by the National Land Commission (NLC).
