Coast Regional coordinator Nelson Marwa has asked politicians from Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River and Kwale not to enter Lamu before the next general elections are conducted.

Marwa said that his office is closely monitoring politicians and added that their actions and words could undermine efforts to foster peace and security in the region.

He said the recent Alshabaab attacks in Lamu were politically instigated.

Marwa added that the killings were meant to scare away voters, especially those supporting Jubilee.

According to Marwa, the attacks are following a pattern in where only places believed to be Jubilee Party strongholds are targetted.

He said that some politicians, especially from Mombasa, have been recently making 'unnecessary' tours to Lamu and that their actions “go beyond mere politics”.

“What’s so interesting in Lamu that some people leave their counties to come here? Every one should stick to their counties until after polls. We don’t want politicians from Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River and Kwale in Lamu. What for?” he asked.
