According  to Gure,  women will be able to push for their interests if they contest for top seats.

Speaking to journalists in Garissa Town on Sunday, Gure said that women in North Eastern region  and the country at large have been neglected for long in regards to leadership, stating that their interests will be considered only if they actively take part in politics.

She observed that the constitution provides for equality for both men and women in leadership.

“Women should shrug off the mentality that leadership is for men only and instead take the opportunity to venture into  in active politics,” she said as quoted by a local daily.

Gure lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta's order to the National Assembly to pass the two-thirds gender Bill saying it is a reprieve  to women.

The Woman Representative claimed that male MPs were not keen to pass the two-thirds gender rule that provides for quality in public appointments.

She urged women to unite and ensure that the two-thirds gender rule is passed before the August 8 polls.

At the same time Gure,  asked women and locals at large to support aspirants who will be able to fight for their rights and welfare. She noted  that unemployment, poverty and insecurity are still rife in the North Eastern county.

Gure  further urged locals to maintain peace and harmony as the country gears up to the August  general election. She  appealed to the national government to guarantee security of Kenyans before, during and after the August polls.
