The Council of Governors (COG) has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to reject signing of the contentious election amendments Bill that was on Thursday passed by Parliament.

The governors now want dialogue between the Jubilee side and opposition in a bid to prevent any action that will create violence in the country.

In a statement by the COG Chair Peter Munya, the governors said that the Elections Act can only be amended through sittings of the Joint Parliamentary Committee.

“The Council urges President Uhuru Kenyatta not to append his signature to the proposed amendments and give dialogue a chance” read the statement by Munya

“The Elections Act could only be amended following the same route of consulting all stakeholders in Kenya. The importance of having a free, fair and just electoral process is key to peace in the country," they added.
