Kwale Woman Representative Zainab Chidzuga has urged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to crack the whip on politicians fanning hatred and hate speech.
Speaking in Kwale Town on Wednesday, Chidzuga asked NCIC to act firm on politicians who spew hatred in their campaigns.
The Woman Representative said that some politician’s area already spewing statements that could trigger violence.
Chidzuga stated that NCIC and other State agencies have the mandate and powers to act on hate mongers.
“The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NICC) and other state agencies must wake up and stop rogue politicians form fueling hatred and violence,” she said as quoted by the People Daily.
The Kwale Woman Rep warned that careless talk being made by some politicians threatens the county’s peace especially this electioneering period.
Chidzuga urged the NCIC to scale up peace campaigns especially in areas mapped as volatile.
She also asked Kenyans to embrace peace and shun politicians who preach disunity.
On Tuesday the National Cohesion and Integration Commission said that it has deployed two peace monitors in every county to monitor campaigns.
The Francis ole Kaparo led commission also said that it has trained police officers who will help monitor hate mongers as the country heads to the August general election.
The commissioner warned rogue politicians saying that they will be dealt with mercilessly.
