Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa has torn into ODM’s director of elections Junet Mohamed saying he got business deals with the NYS because he is Hassan Noor’s brother in law.
Noor, the former Devolution ministry tender committee chairman is married to Junet’s sister.
Ichung’wa opines that there was influence peddling and manipulation of family connections for the awarding of multi-million tenders to Junet’s companies.
Speaking on the Big Question on Citizen TV on Tuesday night, Junet, however, refuted claims that he was a director of the two companies he is associated with.
He said he resigned as director before the 2013 election in which he was elected Suna East MP.
In documents brought to the show, Ichung’wa, however, repudiated Junet’s assertions that he resigned six months after the registering the companies.
He said Junet resigned in 2015 when the NYS scandal came to public light.
“The document he has is dated June 29, 2015. If you had taken the search today, show and tell Kenyans what procurement process you followed to procure NYS business and where you took the loot because we have traced the money to your account. Who was the beneficiary of all the millions he got from NYS,” Ichung’wa said.
In rebuttal, Junet said, “This document he is carrying is written Nyambura. If I’d done a search today, Ichung’wa would have said I cooked it. Even if I did any mistake, it is the responsibility of the government Ichung’wa is in to investigate.”
In the heated debate, Ichung’wa and Junet discredited each other in a back and forth where they dragged Cord leader Raila Odinga and DP William Ruto whom they accused of benefitting from the NYS scam.
Ichung’wa said that more than 20 Cord members benefitted from the NYS Scandal. He also discredited Junet and Raila saying they have been tainted by the failed Kazi Kwa Vijana project, Kilifi County corruption scandal and finally NYS.
Junet said that more than 30 Jubilee allied members have benefited from the scam but after mentioning DP Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet, Ichung’wa hit the roof.
“Look Kenyans in the eye and tell us whether the money you took to your bosses has been returned. Don’t take Kenyans for fools like Raila does,” Kimani said.
Junet laughed off the allegation.
Ichung’wa said Kibet returned the money which did not come from Josephine Kabura but from Ben Gethi.
The money was allegedly a contribution for a medical bill of a lady who was suffering from cancer. Farouk allegedly returned the money after learning that the money could have been criminal proceeds.
Asked if they could work together to fight corruption, Junet said they cannot cross ranks since they cannot work with thieves. Ichung’wa said that the opposition should be as vigorous in fighting corruption in the counties as they are in calling it out in government.
