Nominated Member of Parliament Johnson Sakaja has asked the police not to take sides during campaigns.

Sakaja who doubles up as the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Cohesion and Equal Opportunity, urged the law enforcement agencies to remain neutral.

“We expect the police to play a neutral role in the elections and should not be seen to be pro-Jubilee or NASA,” Sakaja said.

Speaking in Kisii town after a meeting between the committee and members of the county, Sakaja called on all candidates eyeing for various elective seats to inform the police in due time about their planned rallies in order to prevent cancellations.

He also urged politicians to promote cohesion in the country.

He was in the company of MPs Omondi Muluan (Alego Usonga), Kanchori Memusi (Kajiado Central), Diriye Abdullahi (Wajir South) and nominated senator Godliver Omondi.

Also present in the meeting was Kisii county commissioner Karanja Njora.
