A children's officer has cautioned parents against taking their undisciplined children to police stations.
Gabriel Kitili, the Gatundu South Sub-County Children's Officer, said minors with unbecoming behaviour should be reported to children's office, instead of parents taking them to security officers to be disciplined.
The warning comes in the wake of an incident where a police officer is accused of defiling a 15-year-old at Gatundu police station on Sunday.
The officer, Paul Rotich, is said to have removed the minor from the cells at 5am to perform some duties within the station when he defiled her.
The Form Two student and her 14-year-old cousin had been taken to the station by their parents on accusations of indiscipline.
But Kitili, while condemning the officer's act, faulted the parents for making an 'uninformed' decision.
"It is clear the two have some disciplinary issues which could have been best sorted out through counselling not detention," the Children's Officer said on Tuesday, as quoted by the Nation.
The parents have, however, regretted booking the minors at the police station to be disciplined.
"We want justice. It is unfortunate that the person entrusted with our children's safety ended up inflicting more harm on them," the victim's father told the local paper.
