Salat says that the purge by some governors that has seen them suspended and fire some of various county employees is worrying.

Speaking to journalists in Garissa Town on Wednesday, Salat said that the law has be observed in hiring and firing county employees.

“Governors must keep politics out as they take charge of their various counties especially on matters to do with employment and human resource,” he said as quoted by the People Daily.

Salat said that it is wrong for county bosses to  dismiss employees without proper consultations and regards to the law.

The SUPKEM official asked the Public Service Commission (PSC) to intervene and ensure that governors follow the right proceeds on matters human resource.

He said that workers in most counties are panicking and are not sure on whether they will keep their jobs or not

Some of the newly elected governors have suspended some of the county employees while others have sent them on compulsory leave.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua last week sent over 400 staff on compulsory leave to pave way for audit.

Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu and his Meru counterpart Kiraitu Murungi have also suspended some county employees pending audit of their various departments.

On Wednesday, PSC chairperson Margret Kobia warned governors against flouring employment laws. She said that right procedure have to be followed in recruiting and firing of county employees.

There are claims that some governors could be firing employees in order to bring in their loyalties and reward cronies who might have helped them in campaigns that saw them elected to their various seats.
