The police have been asked to avoid using teargas near schools while engaging demonstrators during National Super Alliance (NASA) anti-IEBC protests.

National Parents Association chairman Nicholas Maiyo while condemning recent incidences where police allegedly threw tear gas at a nursery school in Nyalenda Kisumu said such incidences were unacceptable.

Speaking in Eldoret on Monday, Maiyo reiterated the need for students to be protected specially in areas that have witnessed protests.

"We were so shocked and saddened by reports that nursery kids had been teargassed by police. Such incidences are unacceptable and we condemn them in the strongest terms possible," said Maiyo.

"Police should know where to use the teargas and where not to use. Schools are learning facilities for our children and such incidences should not be witnessed again anywhere," he added.

Maiyo however said should protestors hide in learning facilities, necessary steps should be taken to protect students first.

"In the event that rowdy protestors find their way to schools, the police should first evacuate the students before they begin dispersing them (protestors) using teargas," he said.
