A dormitory at Utithi Secondary School in Kibwezi Sub County was razed by fire on Monday night.
The fire which started while the students were having their night preps destroyed property which involved mattresses, beds and students belongings worth thousands of money.
The Principal, Dominic Maingi, confirmed the incident and said that they are yet to determine the cause of the fire.
He said, “The fire started around 8:30pm when the students were in their classes. We tried to put out the fire but we lacked the correct skills and equipment. I thank the neighbours for helping us control the fire.”
“The cause of the fire cannot be determined by now but the police have started investigating the cause of the fire,” added Maingi.
He said that mainly the fire could have been caused by an electricity fault.
“The school’s electrician saw some electrical cables near the dormitory on fire and on rushing to the scene, he found the whole dormitory on fire. We suspect that it could have been an electricity fault but the police will reveal the cause after they finish their investigations,” said Maingi.
Nobody was hurt in the incident.
