The fire started due to a suspected electrical fault.
The school staff and pupils became aware of the fire while taking lunch.
The dormitory housed 60 pupils.
Area administration police commander Francis Mwangi said no one was injured in the incident.
Mwangi said police are investigating the incident.
The county fire brigade team arrived hours later after members of the public had difficulty putting off the fire.
The incident comes after nine girls succumbed to death after a fire at Moi Girls in Nairobi on Saturday.
Education Cs Fred Matiang'i said the fire was as a result of arson.
Matiang'i ordered the closure of the school for two weeks to ensure a conclusive investigation into the incident.
