Speaking during the burial service of former Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru at Kagumo High School in the county Saturday, former Mathira lawmaker Ephraim Maina hailed Ruto for his solidarity with President Uhuru Kenyatta in both the 2013 and 2017 polls pledging the community's support for him in return.
''We are grateful to the deputy president for his unity and support for the president and we promise to repay that as he will be running for the same seat in 2022,'' said Maina.
The former lawmaker also expressed hopes that the Supreme Court will uphold Uhuru's October 26 re-election which has since been petitioned in the court.
''The country has undergone an over-prolonged political period which should come to a stop now.We respect the Supreme Court and its earlier decision to nullify Kenyatta's win but we hope that the results will be positive this time round to enable the nation focus on other agenda,'' he said.
