Deputy President William Ruto has condemned bitterly the decision by a section of church leaders to bar politicians from giving money donations.
Ruto was addressing residents of Kiambu county on his way to attend a fundraiser Kiganjo Youth Polytechnic. The DP said the politicians also have a right like other Christians to participate in harambees.
The DP said before he joined politics he was and is still a practicing Christian so religious leaders should not bar them.
“Those barring us from conducting church harambees should know that we are Christians first and politicians second. One cannot retire from Christianity but can from politics,” he stated.
Ruto has been very synonymous especially in fundraisers during his tenure in office with pundits admitting that it is due to the trend that he has attacked the directive by church leaders.
A few weeks ago Embu Diocese Bishop, Paul Kariuki directed priests in his county to bar politicians from using their platforms to woo voters.
