A section of Homabay leaders now want President Uhuru Kenyatta to drop his deputy William Ruto from an impending trip to the region in a date that has not been confirmed.
Considered to be ODM bedrock, Uhuru is set to open a bridge that links Mbita and Rusinga Island in South Nyanza.
But led by area senator Moses Kajwang, the leaders warned that Kenyatta should do away with the DP whom they accuse of demeaning opposition leader Raila Odinga.
“I am told that the president will be here soon but we want to caution him from coming with Ruto. We want people who can only preach peace.
“Ruto is fond of belittling other leaders and that attitude is unwanted. He is not welcome in this region of the country at all,” he said.
Although there no law that prevents the DP from campaigning across the country, more often than not, the country has witnessed unprecedented violence during this campaign period.
In 2014, President Uhuru Kenyatta had to be escorted from main dais in Migori when chaos broke out during his tour.
