Barely two weeks after Kiambu Governor said that Mt Kenya region may not support DP William Ruto for his 2022 presidential bid, another politician says the DP is blackmailing them.
The controversial statement from nominated senator Paul Njoroge comes after William Kabogo was forced by area leaders to explain his statement and even made to apologise to the DP over the remarks.
Njoroge has asked the Ruto to stop campaigning for the 2022 elections saying that he is blackmailing the Kikuyu community to support him.
He added that Ruto’s nomination as Deputy President in 2017 is not even guaranteed.
“The Deputy President should stop putting the Kikuyu community in an awkward situation by blackmailing them with 2022 elections,” Njoroge said.
This comes as leaders from the region maintain that 2022 is a long time to start campaigning for the presidential seat.
He (Njoroge) maintained that the Kikuyu community has the right to support any other presidential candidate apart from the DP.
“2022 is not very far, it’s about six years from now. If anything happens, somebody comes up and the Kikuyu community plans to support them, they have the right to support anybody,” Njoroge added.
Speaking during a press conference, the senator said that Ruto’s nomination as Deputy President lies in the hands of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
