Deputy President William Ruto has taken a swipe on IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati over his sentiments that he cannot guarantee a free, fair and credible poll during the upcoming presidential repeat elections.

Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, Chebukati noted that the current political atmosphere is not appropriate for a credible process.

He further cited political interference in the affairs of the electoral commission.

"Ironically, the very people, political leaders, who are supposed to build the nation have become the greatest threat to the peace and stability of the nation," Chebukati remarked.

However, in a quick rejoinder, the Deputy President blasted Chebukati, asking him to stop lecturing Kenyans.

In a Tweet published on his official handle on Wednesday, Ruto further maintained that President Uhuru Kenyatta won the August 8 polls fairly despite the Supreme Court's annulment of the victory.

"Chebukati should stop lecturing us and oversee the elections. He is not doing us and we need no favours. Btw we won on 8/8 fair and square," Ruto tweeted.
